Animal Crossing: New Horizons, a game on the Nintendo Switch, has taken the world by storm since its announcement, and its release couldn’t have come at a better time.
The Animal Crossing series is a peaceful video game series that takes place in a village with the player as a human child living with anthropomorphic animals. The games do not have an end goal; instead, the game allows the players to do whatever activity they please. These activities can range from fishing and befriending other residents to setting up a black market of vegetables and insects. The charming art style, soothing music, and peaceful tone of the series have entranced millions.
The newest installment of the Animal Crossing series is Animal Crossing: New Horizons, released March 2020 and it sold 1.88 million physical copies in Japan in only 3 days according to Famitsu Data. In a Business Insider article by Juliana Kaplan, Lauren Frias and Morgan McFall-Johnsen, there are “more than a third of the planet's population is under some form of restriction” due to COVID-19.
